Code Maintenance Committee (CMC)

CDBP established its Code Maintenance Committee to ensure that all stakeholders have an active role in evaluating and voting on CDT Code changes. It is the body that votes to accept, amend or decline requests. The CMC is expected to arrive at decisions that are in the best interests of the profession and patients, and third-party payers/administrators.

Meeting Notice

The next annual CMC meeting is scheduled to convene at ¸£Àû¼§ÊÓÆµHeadquarters on Friday, March 13, 2026. Proceedings begin at 8:30 AM.

Please Note: Meeting dates were revised in November 2025 from those previously published. This meeting:

  • is when committee member organization representatives discuss and vote to accept, amend or reject action requests on the agenda;
  • is an open meeting that includes, as directed by the Chair, opportunities for public (“Observer”) comment on action requests discussed by the committee; and
  • will formally adjourn when the CMC has addressed all agenda items.

Public Comment Period

Any interested party may submit written comments on any of the action requests in the above “CDT 2027 Substantive Submissions Summary” PDF prior to the March CMC meeting. Written comments must be transmitted via email to dentalcode@ada.org and be received no later than 3:00 pm Central on Friday, February 6, 2026.

Note: Written comments must include the following information:

a) Submitter’s name and organizational affiliation
b) Inventory # of the request being commented upon
c) Commenter’s position (for / against / undecided) on the request being addressed

All comments received by Friday, February 6, 2026, will be compiled by the CMC Secretariat and forwarded to CMC member organization representatives.

CMC Meeting Observer Registration Information

**Important Notice for Meeting Attendees**

Please note that only registered attendees will be permitted access to this meeting. Individuals who have not completed registration will not be allowed to join, and same-day registration will not be available. If you have not registered, please do so in advance to ensure your participation.

  • Security at 401 N. Michigan requires all visitors to register.
  • In-person registration will close on Thursday, March 5th at 11:59 pm CENTRAL. There are no exceptions.
  • Virtual registration will remain open up until and during the meeting, virtual attendees will automatically receive a Zoom® link upon registering.
  • Legal name is required for in-person attendees.
  • You will be sent a QR Code on the morning of the meeting to scan at the turnstile for entry.
  • Attendees are allowed entry at the turnstile starting at 7:15 AM Central. Access to elevators will not be available before 7:15 AM.
  • Attendees should expect up to 15 minutes to access the meeting area. Please plan accordingly.
  • The CMC meeting will be held on the 34th floor.
  • Due to capacity limitations, the upcoming CMC meeting will be held in two separate rooms. One room will be designated exclusively for CMC members, while a second room will accommodate observers.
  • The “observer room" will have equipment (monitors; sound) to watch and hear the proceeding live in real-time.
  • Any observers who wish to offer testimony on any action request on the committee’s agenda will do so using the microphone inside the "observer room” only.

Observers who wish to attend this meeting in person at the ¸£Àû¼§ÊÓÆµor virtually using Zoom®, you must register. To register, please click on either link below. Upon registering you will be sent the full observer protocol and the Zoom® meeting link (virtual registrations only).

In-person observers: Pine Street Kitchen, a café offering dining options, is located on the lower level at 401 N. Michigan Avenue. You will be responsible for providing your own breakfast and lunch during this meeting. Only a limited selection of coffee, tea, and water will be available.

Observers will not be permitted inside the dining area on the 34th floor, which is for CMC members and staff.

Virtual observers: The ¸£Àû¼§ÊÓÆµdoes not provide assistance to observers with technical issues concerning Zoom® software or Internet connectivity.

Observer verbal comment:

  • Observers in-person and virtual will have the ability to offer verbal comment during the time period(s) announced by the CMC Chair as action requests on the agenda are addressed.
  • Observer will have 2 minutes to offer comment.
  • Observers must provide unique comments that do not repeat points already made by others.
  • Observers, before making comments are asked to:
  • Mute or otherwise disable any devices (e.g., mobile telephones) that could become distractions
  • Identify themselves by name and organization
  • State the inventory number of the request they wish to address
  • State their position (for / against / undecided) on the request being addressed

The CMC Chair holds the right to limit individual and total time for observer comment; the Secretariat will enforce such time limits and Observers will not be recognized once the testimony time period is closed.

March 2025 CMC Meeting Report and Summary Inventories

The Code Maintenance Committee (CMC) convened its Annual Meeting on March 7, 2025, to determine which action requests on its agenda would be accepted for inclusion in CDT 2026. This version of the code set is effective January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026.

The “CMC Meeting Action Summary” report is available to review or download. There are 60 changes to CDT code entries in CDT 2026 — 31 additions, 14 revisions, 6 deletions and 9 editorials. Details of each accepted action request (code number; nomenclature; descriptor) as submitted or as amended by the CMC will be published in the CDT 2026 manual.

CMC Process Document

This publication documents the CDT Code maintenance process.  Content includes the list of Code Maintenance Committee (CMC) member organizations and their responsibilities, overview of the annual maintenance process, and provisions for meeting observers (non-members).


CDT Code Maintenance Timeline

CDT Change requests may be submitted at any time, and the date received determines the CDT Code version that may incorporate the requested action. The annual closing date for submissions is on the CDT Code Maintenance timeline. Any requests received after the closing date will be addressed in the next annual maintenance cycle.
